Malcolm HAMILTON


Malcolm Hamilton was born at Oxford in the United Kingdom in 1960. 

His family later moved to the west of England where he spent his formative years.  He attended Plymouth Catering College where he studied Hotel Catering and Institutional Management, graduating in 1980 having won several culinary awards.

 

Having worked in many, hotels, restaurants, pubs and private country houses in the West Country, he began work at Gravetye Manor Hotel, in West Sussex.  Moving to France to enhance his knowledge of food and wine, he worked at L’Auberge des Templiers in the Loire valley and Pralong 2000 at Courchevel, in the Haut Savoie. Returning to England, he continued his career in catering as the restaurant manager of Gravetye Manor for several years.

 

He left catering and joined Sussex Police where he served as a beat officer, response car crew and latterly the Counter Terrorism Wing.

He retired from the Police Force in 1999 following an injury and began a new career as a professional wood turner, specialising in making luxury accessories and wooden gifts for some of the very best hotels and restaurants in Europe.

 

He and his wife Rebecca moved to Brittany in 2002 and they now have two daughters born in the region.

He also has two daughters and a son from a previous marriage, who live in Wales.

 

It was in Brittany where he began writing professionally.
